Josh Thomson has dropped two straight scraps via split decision. His bosses didn’t do the veteran any favors in issuing him his next assignment.
On Monday, the UFC announced Thomson will meet fast-rising Tony Ferguson (pictured) when they hit San Diego, California on July 15.
Ferguson is quickly making his way up the lightweight rankings, having won five consecutive bouts. Four of those victories have come via finish.
“El Cucuy” is fresh off last months submission over Gleison Tibau.
Thomson, meanwhile, has lost four of his past six. The 36-year-old was most recently seen getting out pointed by Bobby Green last July.
No word if UFC Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 or a combination of the three will air the card.
Valley View Casino Center in San Diego hosts the festivities.
