Louisiana, your “Diamond” is coming home. After quickly disposing of Carlos Diego Ferreira this past Saturday in his return to lightweight, Dustin Poirier (pictured) requested to make a quick return to the cage in order to perform in front of his hometown.
On Tuesday, Poirier was granted his wish. The UFC announced he will battle Yancy Medeiros at UFC Fight Night 68.
The June 6 event takes place inside Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Poirier is victorious in four of his past five outings. The lone blemish during his current run came in a TKO defeat to bitter rival Conor McGregor, which promoted Poirier to return to the 155-pound division.
Medeiros will be riding a two-fight winning streak into the biggest fight of his career. The 27-year-old most recently submitted Joe Proctor in December.
Here is the show’s current roster:
Joe Soto vs. Anthony Birchak
Joe Proctor vs. Justin Edwards
Dustin Poirier vs. Yancy Medeiros
Dan Henderson vs. Tim Boetsch
Matt Mitrione vs. Ben Rothwell
Daniel Cormier vs. Ryan Bader
