Ask, and you shall received. That is if you’re heavyweight Todd Duffee.
Duffee said he wanted to face a higher ranked opponent in his next outing and specifically requested former champion Frank Mir (pictured). On Wednesday, it was announced Duffee and Mir will headline UFC Fight Night 72.
The July 15 event takes place inside Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.
Mir collected a much-needed win over Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in February. The 35-year-old was likely fighting for his UFC life, as Mir had dropped four straight prior to knocking out the Brazilian.
Speaking of KO’s, it took Duffee all of 33 seconds to put Anthony Hamilton to sleep at UFC 181 in December. The once-promising/possibly still promising slugger has rattled off three consecutive victories.
It is unknown if UFC Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 or some combination of the three will air the event.
Here is the show’s current lineup:
Igor Araujo vs. Sean Strickland
Tony Ferguson vs. Josh Thomson
Todd Duffee vs. Frank Mir
