It’s good to be UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (pictured) on most days, but Sunday is not one of them. The rumor mill has been buzzing with various scenarios involving Jones, but the Albuquerque Police Department has just confirmed they are currently looking to question Jones for a possible hit-and-run in which a pregnant woman’s car was struck earlier this morning.
The APD have not been able to locate Jones. No warrant has been issued for his arrest.
The unnamed female was taken to a local hospital for “non-life threatening injuries.”
“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident,” the UFC expressed in an official statement. “We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”
This isn’t Jones’ first incident behind the wheel. The controversial 27-year-old was arrested in May 2012 for driving while intoxicated in New York after wrapping his $190,000 Bentley around a telephone pole. After pleading guilty, Jones was fined $1,000 and had his driver’s license suspended for six months.
Jones also tested positive for traces of cocaine prior to January’s UFC 182 victory over Daniel Cormier. However, despite countless rumors, the APD did not mention anything about illegal substances being involved in today’s situation.
Jones is currently slated to defend his crown against Anthony Johnson on May 23 at UFC 187.
