UFC lightweight Myles Jury issued a hostile tweet last Friday trashing Reebok – literally. Jury didn’t explain the reason behind his rage, but he was clearly upset with the UFC’s new apparel sponsor.
Jury posted the above pic with the caption, “Take advantage of people & no morals/values? YOU’RE TRASH. Much love to the genuine people out there like @DeeZeeMfg.”
On Wednesday, the UFC finally emailed its entire roster notifying them of how they will be compensated from the new six-year, reported $70 million endorsement deal with Reebok that kicks off July 6.
Based on the tiered system the UFC and Reebok created, Jury would only receive $5,000 in sponsorship money from Reebok because “Fury” has just seven UFC fights under his belt. Perhaps that’s the reason behind his furry.
According to UFC president Dana White, Jury was in talks with Reebok well before the UFC finalized a deal in December with the sports apparel company, but things went sour. White believes Jury may have been hosed and he intends to do right by him.
“First and foremost, what happened with Myles Jury it happened,” White stated during Wednesday’s conference call. “Before we did the deal with Reebok, [Jury] was talking to Reebok. This happened and we’re going to make it right. We’ve got to fix it.
“So we’re going to get together with Reebok, we’re going to get together with Myles and we’re going to fix it. But yeah, he can’t go out trashing Reebok, but he did have a personal falling out with them. It did happen and I’m going to have to manage it and fix it.”
White did not elaborate on what exactly went wrong with Reebok and Jury.
Based on the current sponsorship pay scale, Jury can double his Reebok dollars to $10,000 in four more fights.
Like it or not – and as of right now, NOT – Jury will be forced to break in his fresh Reebok gear July 25 against Anthony Pettis at UFC on FOX 16.
