On Thursday, a heavyweight scrap between veterans Josh Barnett (pictured) and Roy Nelson was announced as the headliner for UFC Fight Night Japan.
The September 27 event goes down inside Saitama Super Arena in Saitama.
In addition to battling inside the octagon, Barnett and Nelson will serve as coaches on the new television show, “Road to UFC: Japan.” The show features eight Japanese mixed martial artists competing against each other for the opportunity to win a UFC contract.
Road to UFC: Japan will air only in Japan.
Barnett and Nelson are both looking to get back on the winning track. Barnett hasn’t been seen since getting knocked out by Travis Browne in December 2013. He had won two strait prior to meeting Browne.
Nelson has dropped four of his past five bouts, including two straight. “Big Country” was most recently outpointed by Alistair Overeem in March. He was KO’d by Mark Hunt before that.
No word if UFC Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 or some combination of the three will offer the event for live viewing in America.
