Sorry, Erick Silva and Rick Story, you no longer get top billing at UFC Fight Night 70. On Friday, the UFC announced a middleweight shootout between former top contender Lyoto Machida (pictured) and Yoel Romera will now headline the June 27 event.
Silva and Story now serve as the night’s co-featured attraction.
That’s not the only change the card will undergo. Instead of taking place in Brazil, as initially planned, the show moves to Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida.
Machida is looking to bounce back from last month’s lopsided submission loss to Luke Rockhold. “The Dragon” has alternated between wins and losses over his past four outings.
Romero, meanwhile, sees his first action since September’s TKO victory over Tim Kennedy. The Brazilian was supposed to meet Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at UFC on FOX 15, but was forced to withdraw with an injury.
“Soldier of God” has rattled off four straight wins.
No word if UFC Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 or some combination of the three will offer the event for live viewing.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
“TUF: Brazil 4” bantamweight tournament final
“TUF: Brazil 4” lightweight tournament final
Masanori Kanehara vs. Rani Yahya
Steve Bosse vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos
Lorenz Larkin vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio
Erick Silva vs. Rick Story
Lyoto Machida vs. Yoel Romero
