Chad “Money” Mendes (pictured) will be depositing some more UFC checks for the foreseeable future. On Monday, UFC president Dana White announced they signed Mendes to an eight-fight contract extension.
White posted a pic with he, Mendes and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta reporting the deal on his Twitter account.
Mendes owns an impressive 17-2 professional record. His only blemishes came at the hands of reigning UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo.
Aldo posted his second straight win over Mendes this past October. Mendes rebounded nicely last month by TKO’ing fellow top contender Ricardo Lamas.
Mendes’ extension helps solidify one of the UFC’s deepest divisions, where he’s currently ranked #1.
No word on when Mendes will break in his new deal. His future agenda might be clearer after UFC 189 when Aldo defends his throne against Conor McGregor.
He most likely will never get another crack at Aldo being down 0-2, but if McGregor captures the crown there’s a chance Mendes could finally settle his beef with McGregor.
