Just hours before the curtain is drawn on UFC 187, the star-studded lineup took a last-second hit. The strawweight scrap between Rose Namajunas (pictured) and Nina Ansaroff was canceled after doctors refused to clear an ill Ansaroff.
“After contracting a case of the flu, UFC strawweight Nina Ansaroff has been deemed medically unfit by doctors to compete in her UFC 187 bout against Rose Namajunas on Saturday night,” the UFC expressed in a statement.
This explains why Ansaroff clocked 120 pounds on the scale Friday, missing weight by four whopping pounds. The bout was then changed to a 120-pound catchweight contest, with Namajunas scoring 20 percent of Ansaroff’s purse as a penalty.
No word if either fighter will be paid their show money.
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
