Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra recently spoke to Sherdog about his possible upcoming fight with arguably the greatest welterweight in UFC history, Matt Hughes. “I would love to be the nail in his coffin,” Serra proclaimed.
Both Serra and Hughes are coming off of injuries which have prevented them from competing sooner.
“We’re looking for a fight with Hughes around January or February. I severely bruised my ulnar nerve. I’m really just starting to train now,” Serra told Sherdog.
Hughes, on the other hand, is rehabbing the knee injury he suffered during a TKO loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 85. Hughes opted to not have surgery and rehab instead.
“This fight should happen. A lot has been said by both sides, and I don’t plan on talking without walking. I plan on fighting,” Serra continued.
A fight in January would most likely take place on the UFC 94 card which will feature the re-match between BJ Penn and Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight championship.
