In February, the Ultimate Fighting Championship promised to implement a stricter drug testing policy and enforce harsher penalties for abusers beginning July 1. The UFC will unveil that new agenda in detail Wednesday during a press conference starting at 2PM ET/11AM PT.
The UFC’s preliminary plan was to get all athletic commissions to subject their fighters to in-competition PED testing on fight night. Furthermore, all main event and championship affairs will be subjected to enhanced out-of-competition PED exams, which will account for roughly 96 marquee fighters getting tested per year.
Furthermore, the UFC would hire a yet-to-be determined third-party agency to conduct random, out-of-competition PED testing for their 585 athletes throughout each year.
Fast forward four months and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, UFC president Dana White (pictured), UFC COO Lawrence Epstein and UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky will hold a press conference Wednesday at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas to detail their new drug testing standards.
The presser was technically arranged to discuss the UFC’s “Athlete Marketing and Development Program,” but the new drug testing policy will be the meat of the meeting.
