Following “UFC 189: Mendes vs. McGregor,” UFC president Dana White awarded Conor McGregor (pictured), Robbie Lawler, Thomas Almeida and Rory MacDonald each an additional $50,000 for their special performances on Saturday.
McGregor did exactly what he predicted he’d do by putting Chad Mendes down in the second round. His TKO victory was good enough to capture the interim featherweight title and a “Performance of the Night: check.
Almeida is one of the UFC’s fastest rising stars, and he lived up to expectations Saturday by posterizing Brad Pickett with a flying knee. That had POTN written all over it.
Lawler and MacDonald put on a great back and forth battle for the welterweight belt. Lawler was winning, then losing, then won in dramatic fashion to retain his title. Both fighters took home “Fight of the Night.”
UFC 189 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
