The only thing more volatile than the stock market are the betting lines for Conor McGregor (pictured) and Chad Mendes.
Immediately after it was announced Tuesday the two would battle for the vacant interim featherweight title at UFC 189, Mendes emerged as the early -130 odds-on favorite to capture the manufactured crown. Minutes later Mendes jumped to -160.
By late last night, the money started shifting to McGregor’s side of the sand and they were both dead-even at -120.
Fast forward just 12 hours and McGregor is in control. McGregor is now a 1.5-1 favorite to beat the man he dubbed “Mini Mendes” on July 11. Mendes, meanwhile, has dropped to +120.
This is likely just the beginning of this up and down movement. It will be interesting to see where the odds end when the cage door closes.
MCM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas hosts UFC 189.
