And here we thought UFC president Dana White was a big time gambler. What White has reportedly pocketed at the tables at The Palms Casino is chump change compared to what featherweight Conor McGregor (pictured) was willing to put up against White.

According to White, McGregor is so confident he’ll knockout Chad Mendes at UFC 189 that he offered to bet White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta $3 million.

“I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but he told Lorenzo and I the other day, ‘I’ll bet you 3 million dollars I knock him out in the 2nd round,” White stated Tuesday on The Jim Rome show. “When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself it’s fascinating, he’s a very unique, fascinating individual, he’s fun to listen to and he’s definitely fun to watch.”

As UFC brass, clearly they declined to take the wager.

At least McGregor hedged his bet with White. “Notorious” professed during last week’s UFC 189 conference call that it would only take him four minutes to put Mendes to sleep.

I guess when it was time to put money where his mighty mouth is, McGregor needed at least an additional six minutes.

McGregor and Mendes battle for the vacant interim featherweight title Saturday at UFC 189.
