You know those silly slap boxing fights when two drunk guys at a bar start out messing around, then for some unknown reason it all of a sudden turns serious? That’s pretty much what happened between Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber (pictured) on Friday.
The incident occurred backstage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas roughly one hour before the UFC 189 weigh-ins.
Faber, of course, is Chad Mendes’ longtime Alpha Male teammate. McGregor was with his girlfriend when he crossed paths with a lonesome Faber.
Fox Sports 1 initially released the video footage, but there was no audio. The good news is the UFC “Embedded” crew captured sound, though it’s tough to hear everything that was said – especially since McGregor’s Irish accent is so strong.
McGregor said something to the effect of, “[Inaudible] dead man,” then proceeded to rub Faber’s head. Faber, who was all-smiles as always, touched McGregor around his waist and asked, “Are you gonna be alright?”
McGregor, who is already at 100 by nature was extra irked since he had been cutting weight, lunges for Faber. McGregor mumbles something as they clinched, and Faber walked away confused and smiling.
Boys will be boys.
McGregor and Mendes battle for the vacant interim featherweight title Saturday at UFC 189.
