Former UFC welterweight top contender Rory MacDonald (pictured) simply can’t catch a break. Actually, he suffered two breaks in Saturday’s TKO loss to champion Robbie Lawler.
Lawler and MacDonald put on a thrilling back-and-forth show. Lawler had the lead early, then MacDonald unexpectedly turned the tables with one head kick, but Lawler rallied to finish things off in the final round.
Both fighters skipped the UFC 189 post-fight press conference to be examined at the hospital.
Neither the UFC nor Lawler have provided updates on his status, but MacDonald posted a selfie Sunday morning boasting about his war wounds.
“broken nose broken foot but ill be back,” MacDonald wrote with the pic above on Twitter.
No word on how long MacDonald will be forced to ride the pine.
Lawler now holds a 2-0 lead against MacDonald, the man many thought was the division’s heir apparent behind former champion Georges St-Pierre.
Each 170-pounder scored an extra $50,000 for “Fight of the Night.”
