During Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 71 broadcast, it was announced reigning flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (pictured) will defend his throne against John Dodson at UFC 191.
The rematch will headline the September 5 event in Las Vegas.
Johnson holds a decision win over Dodson from January 2013. It was Johnson’s first 125-pound title defense. Due to various injuries, Dodson has only fought three times since their initial encounter while Johnson has performed on five occasions.
“Mighty Mouse” will be riding a eight-fight winning streak into the sequel. He was last seen submitting Kyoji Horiguchi in April at UFC 186.
Dodson, meanwhile, is perfect through his past three outings. May’s unanimous decision victory over Zach Makovsky solidified his top contender status.
Dodson has been chirping for years that he has what it takes to dethrone the only flyweight champion the UFC has ever known. Now it’s time for the “Magician” to walk the walk and make Johnson’s dominant reign disappear.
Here is the card’s updated lineup:
Francisco Rivera vs. John Lineker
Paige VanZant vs. Alex Chambers
Antony Johnson vs. Jan Blachowicz
