It appears UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler’s (pictured) next title defense will come against former interim champ Carlos Condit, not Johny Hendricks as some had suspected.
On Thursday, BleacherReport.com confirmed with multiple sources that Lawler and Condit are slated to headline UFC 194. The December 5 event is expected to take place in Calgary.
Speaking of Hendricks, the report also said he will co-headline the show opposite Tyron Woodley in a top contender tango.
Condit has dropped three of his last five, but just TKO’d Thiago Alves in May to help right the ship, and apparently earn next dibs status.
Lawler, meanwhile, has rattled off four consecutive victories, including this month’s instant classic TKO over Rory MacDonald at UFC 189. The W marked Lawler’s first title defense.
Lawler and Hendricks each hold a tight win over the other, so a championship trilogy is still in play as long as they both win their next fights.
No other bouts have been rumored for the event.
