In case you missed it, the planet’s biggest MMA show added even more depth to one of their deepest divisions over the UFC 108 weekend. The ink is barely dry from Takanori Gomi’s UFC contract, however Kenny Florian already has his sights set on the former PrideFC star.
“It’s a fight that I think I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, ever since Gomi was the best over in PRIDE,” Florian told MMAJunkie.
The rumor mill went nuts as soon as Gomi’s signing was officially announced. Most MMA pundits tagged Florian as the perfect opponent to welcome the Japanese star into the Octagon, and it appears the lightweights could collide as early as March 27th.
If that’s the case, Ken-Flo is a-go for UFC 111.
“I’m ready and I’ve already started training as of a couple weeks ago,” Florian confidently stated.
A bout in New Jersey would be a welcomed idea for Florian as the Bostonian feels he would enjoy a decent home court advantage, however he’s fully aware he’ll be standing alone once the cage door closes.
UFC 111 is slated to jump off inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Here are the fighters rumored to be participating in the pay-per-view broadcast:
Ricardo Almeida vs. TBD
Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi
Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch
Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir (UFC Interim Heavyweight Title)
Dan Hardy vs. Georges St-Pierre (UFC Welterweight Champion)
