Sara McMann claimed she would be the one to finally dethrone reigning UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, despite getting TKO’d by Rousey in just 66 seconds 18 months ago.
Amanda Nunes (pictured) submitted her application for a crack at Rousey’s crown by easily submitting McMann Saturday at UFC Fight Night 73.
With Rousey already holding convincing wins over everyone above Nunes in the rankings, the Brazilian knows she’s close. When that times comes, whether it’s one or two more fights from now, Nunes intends to do the exact opposite of Rousey’s last victim, Bethe Correia.
Nunes saw what can happen when you piss Rousey off entering a fight, so it’s best to just play nice until the cage door slams shut.
“I don’t need to talk,” Nunes said of engaging in pre-fight chatter with Rousey. “I’m going to step into the cage and do my thing. My next fights are going to be like this: I’m going to win more bonuses and knock people out. For sure, I’m going to have my title shot soon.”
This might be the optimal route, because after Correia started popping off at the mouth, Rousey promised to finish her in the most devastating way possible. That face-plant KO took all 34 seconds.
Then again, Rousey had all the respect in the world for Cat Zingano and she waxed her off in just 14 seconds.
So, best of luck, Amanda.
