Cris “Cyborg” Justino (pictured) is picking the worst possible time to go on the strictest, most important diet of her life. On December 12, a time when most Americans pack on pounds that they hide behind thick layers of sweats due to peak Holiday season, Justino wants to challenge reigning UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at a weight she’s never been able to successfully cut down to.
On Monday, it was reported a featherweight title unification bout between champion Jose Aldo and interim champ Conor McGregor will headline the UFC’s December 12 event inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It had been rumored Rousey would co-headline for Aldo/McGregor, but UFC president Dana White shot that chatter down after Cowboys Stadium was no longer an option.
Regardless, Rousey is supposed to face Miesha Tate for a third time in her next outing, not Justino. However, Justino wants some of the “Rowdy” one ASAP.
“Stop being a do nothing bitch! Let’s do this for the FANS now (December 12) not later/ don’t worry it will be your last [email protected],” Justino tweeted shortly after it was confirmed Rousey wouldn’t open for Aldo/McGregor.
Of course, Justino (or more likely her marketing team) stole Rousey’s “do nothing bitch” line to call out the UFC’s largest superstar.
Rousey vs. Cyborg is the biggest fight the UFC could possibly arrange. White even admitted the highly-anticipated shootout could garner a company record 2.5 million pay-per-view buys.
Here’s the problem: Not only has Justino never competed at 135 pounds, the Invicta featherweight champ has had issues just making 145 pounds in the past. Given the financial ramifications, the UFC desperately wants to put the superfight together, but needs Justino to first prove she can shed the 10 pounds required to challenge Rousey at bantamweight. After that successful trial fight, she can get Rousey.
It’s interesting Justino is all of a sudden adamant that Rousey accepts the fight on December 12. Is it because she wants a piece of the massive PPV payday Aldo/McGregor will garner, particularly if she and Rousey serve as the opening act? Or is she currently dieting like mad and wants to ensure the juice is worth the squeeze?
It’s understandable why the UFC wants to make sure Justino can safely make 135 pounds before pumping millions of dollars into promoting a bout with their golden girl, so it’s up to Justino to convince them she can do it without a trial run.
Best of luck with that.
