It’s a shootout that was supposed to go down three years ago, but someone decided to fail their UFC 146 pre-fight drug test. While increased testosterone levels cost him a crack at then-champion Junior dos Santos (pictured) in 2012, Alistair Overeem believes now is the perfect time to tango.
The only problem is, dos Santos is too “afraid” to sign on the dotted line – that is, if you were to ask Overeem.
“Still waiting on the JDS confirmation! Come on @junior_cigano time to get rolling! I can’t believe you are afraid.. So what R u waiting for,” Overeem tweeted Monday morning.
With the UFC announcing last week that Cain Velasquez will be granted an immediate rematch with champ Fabricio Werdum, coupled with the fact all of the UFC’s other top heavyweights have already been issued their next assignments, it appears Overeem might be dos Santos’ only logical option.
The genuine hatred the two have for each other makes the fight even more intriguing. The beef had gotten so bad between them that dos Santos refused to address Overeem by name at one point.
Overeem has won three of his last four scraps, including two straight. Dos Santos, meanwhile, has alternated between wins and losses over his past five outings. He absorbed a severe amount of punishment in three of those fights, which may have taken years off his career.

Dos Santos just responded to Overeem:
