Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos (pictured) and Alistair Overeem can finally stop bickering on Twitter, because they will have the chance to settle their long-running beef in real life on December 19.
On Tuesday, the UFC announced the heavyweight shootout will co-headline UFC on FOX 17.
This bout was initially supposed to go down three years ago, but Overeem flunked his UFC 146 pre-fight drug test for testosterone and wasn’t allowed to challenge then-champ dos Santos for this throne.
Dos Santos hasn’t been seen since taking a controversial unanimous decision over Stipe Miocic in December. “Cigano” was hoping his next outing would be against champ Fabricio Werdum, but the UFC recently announced Cain Velasquez would be granted an immediate chance to reclaim his throne.
With nowhere left to turn, dos Santos had to settle for settling his differences with his longtime rival.
Overeem, meanwhile, has won three of his last four scraps, including two straight. “The Demolition Man” most recently took a decision over Roy Nelson in March.
Amway Center in Orlando, Florida hosts the festivities.
FOX will broadcast the main card live starting at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Here is the show’s current roster:
Tamdan McCrory vs. Josh Samman
