Max Holloway wants Frankie Edgar (pictured) next, and Edgar was more than willing to oblige. Unfortunately for both featherweights, the UFC has other plans.
Lancenet.com.br reported Tuesday, which was subsequently confirmed by multiple outlets, that Edgar will headline “The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale” opposite Chad Mendes.
“The Answer” was hoping to get a title tilt after beating Urijah Faber in May, but the UFC didn’t provide the answer the former lightweight champion was hoping for. Edgar will be riding a four-fight winning streak into the tango.
Mendes is looking to bounce back from July’s TKO defeat to Conor McGregor for the vacant interim featherweight crown. “Money” accepted the bout on last-minute’s notice and it showed, as he gassed before getting blasted in the second round.
The December 11 event will take place at a yet-to-be announced venue in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Fox Sports 1 is expected to air the main card live.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Ryan LaFlare vs. Mike Pierce
Joe Lauzon vs. Evan Dunham
Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Frankie Edgar vs. Chad Mendes
