Hello, MMA fans. Please allow me to introduce Fedor Emelianenko 2.0. This revamped version of “The Last Emperor” possesses the same stoic facial expression, but the pudgy fighter you once knew has replaced his physique with that of a body builder.
OK, so it’s not as exciting as last week’s iPhone 6s unveiling, but when MMA’s most decorated heavyweight champion wants to come out of retirement and reemerges with a set of guns he never possessed during his illustrious 12-year career, it’s significant.
Well, at the very least it’s interesting on this slow MMA news day…
Emelianenko announced two months ago that he would end his three-year retirement to return to the cage. While the 38-year-old has yet to come to terms with a promotion, it’s clear he is dead serious about a comeback.
Light heavyweight Quinton “Rampage” Jackson posted the above pic on his Instagram page Tuesday stating, “Fedor is looking like a beast! My favorite fighter is making a comeback #cantwait.”
Due to his relationship with Bellator president Scott Coker and his current promotional efforts with the organization, it was believed Bellator had the inside track on signing Emelianenko. However, Coker recently said they were not in the running.
That essentially leaves the UFC or a return to a Japan, where his legend began.
