Former UFC light heavyweight Renato “Babalu” Sobral will finally be challenging Strikeforce champion Bobby Southworth for his title on November 21st. The two were initially slated to square off on Strikeforce’s “Playboy at the Mansion II” event in September, however Babalu was forced to withdraw due to an injury. He has since had successful surgery to correct a medial mediscal tear, if fully healed and ready to challenge to the title.
Babalu’s manager and attorney, Richard Wilner, confirmed his acceptance of the November bout with MMAJunkie.com Thursday.
It is rumored that there will be two titles on the line this night, as lightweight champion Josh Thomson will be making his first title defense. Thomson just defeated Ashe Bowman via TKO in the 1stRound at the aforementioned Playboy card, however that was a non-title fight.
An opponent for Thomson has yet to be named.
