Here’s a shocker, EA Sports has chosen Ronda Rousey, the UFC’s biggest superstar, to grace half the cover of their “EA Sports UFC 2” video game cover.
The other fighter to join Rousey on the cover will be decided by fan vote. The athletes available have not been revealed.
Speaking of voting, my, how things have changed in just two years. For EA Sports’ first UFC video game, they had fans vote for both cover athletes. Rousey was arguably the UFC’s most hated fighter at that time following her tumultuous stint as coach on “The Ultimate Fighter 18.” She was beat out in a head-to-head matchup by bitter rival Miesha Tate.
Fast forward to today and Rousey scores an automatic bid.
For Rousey’s sake, let’s just hope she doesn’t suffer a Madden curse-like situation. Things could be much better for Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson, the two fighters who appeared on EA’s debut UFC video game.
Jones has since been arrested for felony hit-and-run where a pregnant motorist suffered a broken arm. He was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight title and was just reinstated by the UFC last month. Gustafsson, meanwhile, has dropped two straight scraps and is starting to enter the dreaded gatekeeper zone.
Meanwhile, in real life, Rousey defends her throne Saturday at UFC 193 against Holly Holm.
A release date has not been announced for the video game.
