What do you say to someone who you just dominated, knocked out cold with a highlight reel head kick, stole their UFC bantamweight title belt along with their aura of invincibility? Oh, and let’s not forget, the person you just demoralized called you “fake” the day before.
Well, if you’re Holly Holm, you tell Ronda Rousey that she is the reason you were given the opportunity to perform on a stage so grand in the first place.
Seconds after UFC president Dana White wrapped the bantamweight title around Holm’s waist last Saturday at UFC 193, Holm turned to a battered, bloodied and bruised Rousey to offer comfort and appreciation.
“I really admire you for being such a great, dominant champion,” Holm told Larry King of what she said after their embrace inside the cage. “None of us would be here without you, so I appreciate you.”
Holm has always come across as genuine, and the words she offered Rousey after breaking her heart fall in line with that. Nobody is really sure where Rousey conjured up the whole “fake” thing. Perhaps that was just Rousey’s way of trying to get herself fired up.
What’s real is the fact Holm is MMA’s new darling. She’s hit nearly every major media platform that Rousey was afforded leading into Saturday’s upset special. Rousey, on the other hand, has gone into seclusion.
Holm attended the Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Clippers basketball game Thursday night. According to the TNT announcers, she received the loudest ovation of all the celebrities in the arena. This happened in Rousey’s backyard of Staples Center, mind you.
She also snapped a courtside pic with Floyd Mayweather. Rousey’s gotta be lovin’ that…
