‘UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor’ Live Results And Play-by-Play

“UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor” takes place Saturday night inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC Fight Pass streams the first three preliminary bouts live starting at 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT.

Fox Sports 1 airs the remaining four prelims at 8PM ET/5PM PT. The pay-per-view broadcast begins immediately after at 10PM ET/7PM PT.

The highly-anticipated and heavily-hyped featherweight title unification bout between champion Jose Aldo and interim champ Conor McGregor headlines the festivities. An overlooked middleweight title tilt with champ Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold serves as the co-main event.

This show is expected to be of the box office variety. The UFC is set to score at least $9 million at MGM’s gate and hover around one million pay-per-view buys.

Here are the official results and play-by-play of tonight’s fights:

Preliminary Card:

(UFC Fight Pass 6:30PM ET/3:30PM PT)

Court McGee Defeats Marcio Alexandre Jr. via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: McGee lands a kick to the body, but Alexandre answers back with an even bigger one of his own. Alexandre clocks him in the face with another kick. McGee catches a kick and gets a bodylock against the fence. Alexandre gets loose and tags him with a straight right hand. McGee eats another left. Alexandre takes a kick to the cup and time is called. Game on.  McGee continues to push the pace, but hasn’t been able to land anything significant. McGee goes for a double-leg takedown, but gets caught in a guillotine choke. McGee escapes and is on top. He nails Alexandre with a big elbow. Close round.

5thRound scores it: Alexandre, 10-9.

2ndRound: They trade inside leg kicks. McGee clinches him against the cage. Body punches by McGee. Alexandre gets free. Alexandre appears content with trying to counter whatever McGee sends his way. McGee presses him against the fence again. He’s landing knees to Alexandre’s thighs. McGee still can’t secure a takedown and isn’t landing anything devastating, but he might take this round because he’s had Alexandre pinned against the cage for much of the round. The referee finally separates them with 55 seconds to go.

5thRound scores it: McGee, 10-9.

3rdRound: McGee finally secures a takedown. Alexandre is able to quickly get to his feet, though. This fight is far from thrilling, understandable why it’s the card’s opening bout. McGee clinching him against the fence again, but Alexandre is doing a great job of avoiding the takedown. McGee picks him up and drops him on the mat. The land in Alexandre’s full-guard. One minute to go. McGee dropping some hard elbows.

5thRound scores it: McGee, 10-9, and likely rallied to win, 29-28.

Yancy Medeiros Defeats John Makdessi via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

1stRound: Significant reach advantage for Medeiros, and he’s doing a solid job of keeping his opponent at the end of his strikes. Nothing significant has landed for their fighter through half the round. Lone one-two combination lands for Medeiros. Makdessi swarms late and lands some strikes, but not enough to steal the period.

5thRound scores it: Medeiros, 10-9.

2ndRound: Madessi starting to land some left hands. He clocks Medeiros his a spinning wheel kick to the face. That was the best strike of the fight, by far. Makdessi turning up the heat now. Medeiros sends him back with a solid right hand. Medeiros goes for a clinch, but isn’t able to drag Makdessi down. Medeiros connects with a right hand, Makdessi counters with a left.

5thRound scores it: Makdessi, 10-9.

3rdRound: Much of the same to start the final period. Medeiros scores with a right had. Makdessi connects with a left jab and leg kick combo. The striking seems even, but Makdessi is landing far more significant strikes which could win him this close fight. Two minutes to go. Makdessi has dictated the pace and action in this final round. Left hook by Makdessi. Medeiros drops him with a left hook. He lands a knee to the midsection as Makdessi gets up. Too little, too late?

5thRound scores it: Makdessi, 10-9, and probably won, 29-28.

Magomed Mustafaev Defeats Joe Proctor via TKO (strikes) at 1:54 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Proctor charges forward with a barrage of punches. Came up with air, though. Mustafaev is throwing thunder. Proctor eats two big kick to the body. Mustafaev giving him the business. He folds Proctor over with a knee to the midsection in the clinch. Another knee to the dome. Several bombs and it’s a wrap.

Leonardo Santos Defeats Kevin Lee via TKO (punches) at 3:26 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Santos lands a solid leg kick, Lee is unfazed. Lee eats another leg kick. Lee responds with a kick to the body of his own. Lee throws a sloppy right hook and gets taken down. Santos jumps on his back. They get back to their feet. Santos drops him with a straight right hand and pounces. Lee’s eating a ton of punches and isn’t fighting back. Game over.

Warlley Alves Defeats Colby Covington via Submission (guillotine choke) at 1:26 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Alves starts things off with a violet body kick. He charges Covington and goes for a guillotine choke. Covington reverses position and is pressing Alves against the cage. Alves goes for a standing guillotine. It’s very tight. Covington tries to slam him to get loose, but that did nothing. Covington has no choice but to tap.

Tecia Torres Defeats Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Lybarger has a significant reach advantage and charges the center of the cage. Torres slips on a kick. Torres gets on the board with a one-two combination. And another. Lybarger eats a straight right. Lybarger tries to get a clinch, but Torres quickly reverses position. They trade knees to the body. Torres working hard for a takedown, but Lybarger is fending her off well. They trade knees to the body in the clinch.

5thRound scores it: Torres, 10-9.

2ndRound: Lybarger immediately pushes Torres back and clinches her against the fence. Shes grinded Torres against the cage for two minutes now. Torres reverses, but should separate and use her speed advantage. And Torres does just that. Lybarger clinches again. More grinding. Torres is a little sloppy with a right hand and Lybarger dives for a takedown, but Lybarger ends up on the bottom and eats a barrage of elbows to the dome. Torres really pouring it on.

5thRound scores it: Torres, 10-9.

3rdRound: Torres clinched her against the cage for a second, but decided to release. She tags Lybarger with a right hand. Torres follows that up with a side kick to the body. Lybarger continues to charge forward, but can’t keep up with Torres’ movement. Right hook by Torres. Torres scores with five unanswered punches. She’s given Lybarger the business now. What a flurry by Torres. Torres clinches her against the fence. Lybarger isn’t baking down, nailing Torres with a left but she’s running out of time.

5thRound scores it, Torres, 10-9, and easily ran the table, 30-27.

Urijah Faber Defeats Frankie Saenz via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

1stRound: They trade leg kicks. Faber lands a flying knee to the body. They are both coming out fast. Faber goes for a trip, but ends up on the bottom. They’re back up. Saenz takes Faber’s legs out with a kick. Faber connects with a knee to the midsection. Faber has tried on multiple occasions for a takedown, but can’t secure one. Big leg kick by Saenz. Faber dives for a single-leg to no avail. Saenz tags him with a flying knee. Exciting, fast-paced round. Close, too.

5thRound scores it: Faber, 10-9.

2ndRound: Faber rocks him with a head kick. Faber smells blood and is going for the kill with a barrage of vicious standing elbows. Saenz is doing his best to weather the storm, but Faber isn’t letting up on his assault. Faber tags him with knees. Faber tosses him to the ground. Saenz reverses and takes Faber’s back. Faber may have emptied his tank with that flurry thinking Saenz was done. Faber appears exhausted and there’s still half the round to go. Saenz seems to have recovered. They have separated. Saenz nails him with an inside leg kick. And another. Faber takes a front kick to the body. Saenz scores with a right hand. It can be argued that Saenz is up 2-0 going into the third.

5thRound scores it: Saenz, 10-9.

3rdRound: Saenz was a huge underdog, but he’s game. He connects again with some outside leg kicks. It looks like Faber has caught his second wind. Saenz clinches him against the cage. They trade knees in the clinch. If Saenz wins this, he can thank his takedown defense. Faber tags him with a right hand. Two minutes remaining. Faber eats another leg kick. Saenz eats a right hook. And a left jab. And another. Saenz is tad sloppy with a punch and Faber gets a body lock and gets his first takedown. If Faber can hold him there, he might hang on to win this fight. Saenz gets up but is getting pressed against the cage. After a scramble, Faber ends up on top as the horn blares.

5thRound scores it: Faber, 10-9, and he likely held on to win, 29-28.

Main Card:

Max Holloway Defeats Jeremy Stephens via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

1stRound: Holloway takes the center of the cage. They trade leg kicks. They’re feeling each other out in the opening minute. Holloway gets on the board with a one-two combo. He follows up with a right hand. Stephens is clinching him against the cage. They separate. Stephens very active with his leg kicks.

5thRound scores it: Holloway, 10-9.

2ndRound: Stephens lands a body shot. Holloway is initiating much of the action. He tags Stephens with a knee to the body and a right to the face. Right hand by Stephens. Holloway goes for a spinning back fist, but Stephens gets a hold of him and clinches against the fence. Holloway gets free. Stephens goes for a single-leg takedown. Holloway tags him with a right hook on the way out. Stephens going for yet another takedown.

5thRound scores it: Holloway, 10-9.

3rdRound: Surprisingly slow pace, and the crowd is getting anxious. Stephens starts things off with a couple leg kicks. Holloway gets a takedown and quickly moves to half-guard. Solid left hand by Holloway. And another. Four minutes left. Holloway advances to side-control. Holloway jumps on his back and is going for a rear-naked choke. Stephens escapes but is on the bottom. Big elbow by Holloway. He takes Stephens’ back and has both hooks in. Two minutes to go. Stephens fights to his feet and has Holloway clinched against the fence. They separate. Holloway is the fresher fighter as this scrap comes to a conclusions. Stephens knows he needs a KO and is acting like it. Stephens comes up short on a takedown. Spinning elbow by Holloway. Stephens is swinging for the fences.

5thRound scores it: Holloway, 10-9, and he most likely ran the table, 30-27.

Demian Maia Defeats Gunnar Nelson via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-25, 30-25)

1stRound: Maia closes the distance and immediately shoots for a single-leg. Nelson takes Maia down for a split second. Maia has him clinched against the fence. Nelson trips him to the mat. Maia jumps on his back. Nelson tried to slide out the backdoor, but Maia gets in full-mount. Maia dropping punches and elbows. Maia’s on his back again. Nelson is taking a ton of punches to the face. Maia locks in a body triangle. Maia doing plenty of work from behind. Maia going for an armbar, but Nelson escapes and lands some punches.

5thRound scores it: Maia, 10-9.

2ndRound: Maia dives for a takedown, Nelson reverses, then Maia takes the position right back. They’re clinching. Nelson has been warned twice to not hold the fence. Maia takes his back again. Nelson is piggybacking Maia, who has a body triangle. Maia is hammering him in the head from behind. Nelson sweeps to top position. Maia easily takes back top position. Maia is proving he’s the better grappler. Nelson is eating several heavy elbows. Maia advances to full-mount, but the round is almost over.

5thRound scores it: Maia, 10-9.

3rdRound: Maia is the fresher fighter, by far. He dives for a takedown, but Nelson gets out and nearly locked in a guillotine choke. Maia escapes and happily takes top position. Nelson needs a finish, but it’s not going to happen at this rate when he’s staring up at the lights. Nelson is getting schooled. Maia is pounding the side of his head with elbows. Maia is doing anything he wants on the ground. He now moves to Nelson’s back and gets a body triangle. Two minutes to go. Maia appears content with riding this position out and tapping Nelson in the dome every once in a while. Nelson spins to full-guard.

5thRound scores it: Maia, 10-9, and easily won, 30-27.

Yoel Romero Defeats Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza via Split Decision (29-27, 28-29, 29-28)

1stRound: Romero is a scary looking individual. Souza takes the center of the cage, while Romero appears content to circle the outside for now. Nothing to write about 90 seconds in. Romero drops Jacare with a spinning back fist. He dives into Jacare’s full-guard to try and finish. He’s laying the lumber. Big elbow by Romero. Jacare goes for a desperation armbar from his back.

5thRound scores it: Romero, 10-9.

2ndRound: Jacare still looks very wobbly. Romero has to smell blood. Jacare has stood in the middle of the cage and Romero hasn’t done anything to test if he’s still dazed or not. Romero has now let two minutes pass without going after Souza, giving him plenty of time to recover. Souza dives for a takedown to no avail. Souza had a body lock to secure the takedown, but because Romero grabbed the fence he landed on top. The referee saw it and took the position away for cheating. They resume standing. Romero’s pace has slowed significantly. Big inside leg kick by Romero. Close one to score.

5thRound scores it: Souza, 10-9.

3rdRound: Romero looks exhausted in his corner. Leg kick by Souza. Straight left by Romero. He follows it up with an inside leg kick. Souza comes up empty on a takedown attempt. Souza is sensing Romero is gassed. He lands a couple of unanswered bombs and easily gets a takedown. He moves to half-guard. Souza is putting in work on the canvas with two minutes to go. Big elbows by Souza. This should seal the deal. Romero gets to his feet.

5thRound scores it: Souza, 10-9, and most likely rallied, 29-28

Luke Rockhold Defeats Chris Weidman via TKO (punches) at 3:12 in the 4thRound (Rockhold captures UFC middleweight title)

1stRound: Herb Dean is the third man inside the octagon.Weidman clips him with a lunging left and gets a hold of his body. Weidman jumps on his back. Rockhold is trying to shuck him off. Weidman did an impressive job of hanging on, but Rockhold finally got loose. Weidman promptly gets a takedown and goes for a kimuar. Rockhold gets to his feet, but the champ is all over him. Pro-Weidman crowd echoing throughout the arena. Weidman clinching him against the fence. Rockhold eats a big elbow. Weidman gets another takedown, but falls in Rockhold’s guillotine. He should be safe because Weidman is on Rockhold’s side. Rockhold was simply holding on and Dean stands them up. That was odd. They trade punches. After a scramble, Rockhold ends up on top.

5thRound scores it: Weidman, 10-9.

2ndRound: Rockhold rocks him with a left hand. Weidman appeared wobbly for a second, but it looks like he has recovered. Rockhold starting to open up with his kicks now. Big head kick by Rockhold. He follows up with a leg kick. Weidman gets a body lock but can’t complete the takedown. Rockhold starting to gain momentum. Rockhold tags him with a massive right hand. Weidman is moving very slow. Rockhold eats a big body kick. He answers back with a body shot.
5thRound scores it: Rockhold, 10-9.

3rdRound: Weidman seems very confident standing right in front of Rockhold despite getting carved up by kicks. The champ charges in and clinches Rockhold against the fence. They separate. Weiman tags him with a left hand and parlays it with a takedown. The challenger gets up, but appears to be getting tired. Weidman eats a body kick. Weidman answers back with body kicks of his own. And another. Weidman misses on a wheel kick and Rockhold takes his back on drags him to the canvas in the middle of the cage. Rockhold moves to full-mount with a minute to go. Weidman doing a good job of avoiding damage. Rockhold is gving him the business now. This could be finished soon. Wow, that could have been stopped but Dean let it go. Weidman wobbles back to his corner.

5thRound scores it: Rockhold, 10-9.

4thRound: Weidman appears game, despite that mauling. Rockhold lands a body kick and gets a body lock. Rockhold grabs the fence to prevent a takedown and is warned. Rockhold scores a takedown with four minutes to go. Weidman’s face is a bloody mess. Rockhold working solid ground-and-pound. Weidman squirming as best he can to escape. Rockhold is dropping bombs. Dean finally brings the mauling to a halt. #AndNew

Conor McGregor Defeats Jose Aldo via KO (punches) at :13 in the 1stRound (McGregor becomes UFC featherweight champion)

1stRound: “Big” John McCarthy is the third man inside the cage. McGregor is very loose. Aldo rushes in and gets caught with a left hook right on the chin. Aldo faceplants. McGregor lands a few hammer fists on the ground. Game over. Aldo has no clue what just happened. Neither does the rest of the MMA world.
