UFC Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor (pictured) proved once again this past weekend that it’s great to be king. After disposing of Jose Aldo, the most decorated featherweight in MMA history, in just 13 seconds to unify the UFC featherweight title, McGregor walked away from UFC 194 as the game’s biggest superstar.

Oh, he also left Las Vegas as the event’s highest earner. McGregor scored a flat $500,000 salary for his brief outing on Saturday night.

Aldo, meanwhile, made $400,000. “Scarface” would have earned another $100,000 had he won.

Freshly-minted middleweight champ Luke Rockhold scored $160,000, with half coming via win bonus, for dethroning Chris Weidman in the co-main event. “All-American pocketed $275,000, but could have doubled that with a victory.

UFC 194 is expected to top one million pay-per-view buys. Aldo, McGregor, Weidman and possibly Rockhold will each get a piece of that pie.

Veteran Urijah Faber was the show’s second-highest paid fighter at $300,000 after squeaking past Frankie Saenz in a preliminary bout.

Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as licenses and taxes.

Additionally, they do not contain sponsorship money paid by Reebok or any bonuses from the UFC. These royalties can include pay-per-view commissions, Fight Night bonuses, top secret discretionary bonuses, etc., which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.

MGGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas hosted Saturday’s event.
