‘I will trade you my Chuck Liddell for your Randy Couture.’ That is what MMA fans will now be able to say, as the Topps Company has reached an agreement with the UFC to produce the official trading cards for the MMA organization. This agreement gives Topps the exclusive rights to produce trading cards and stickers of past, present and future UFC fighters. The deal has Topps releasing the first edition of cards in early 2009 and ending in 2011.
“MMA continues to become one of the most popular sports in the country and Topps is looking forward to joining forces with UFC’s rising stars and illustrious history,” said Topps GM of Sports & Entertainment Warren Friss. “We are extremely excited to work with UFC and give our collectors access that has never before been available in our industry.”
In typical UFC fashion, these will not be your typical trading cards. The UFC will also provide Topps with access to privileged UFC itmes such as authentic fight-worn gloves, pieces of the Octagon mat and exclusive images that Topps can use for limited edition cards.
Some of the UFC fighters that will be featured will be UFC Hall of Famer and heavyweight champion Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar, Royce Gracie, Forrest Griffin, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and many others.
“We are excited to be working with Topps to showcase our incredible athletes on UFC trading cards,” stated Dana White, UFC President. “We look forward to having great success with Topps, and to giving UFC fans a product they can collect and trade with other fans of our sport.”
