Fedor Emelianenko was supposed to fight Josh Barnett, but later they “mutually” agreed that they shouldn’t fight right now. This prompted Affliction Entertainment V.P. Tom Atencio to all but confirm an Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski fight for sometime in January.
However, Atencio recently told the media that Affliction is still looking into Emelianenko facing either Barnett or Arlovski and that nothing has yet to be signed, with even the event location and date up in the air.
The upstart MMA promotion is walking a fine line between being an integral part of the sport’s landscape and becoming another promotion that gets left in the UFC’s wake. There’s no doubt that they have things in place to compete with the “big guy,” but many have had their doubts since Affliction’s successful first event.
