UFC Lightweight Manny Gamburyan will be making his return to the Octagon on Super Bowl weekend at UFC 94. “The Ultimate Fighter Season 5” runner-up will be taking on Brazilian fighter Thiago Tavares on the January 31st event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gamburyan confirmed the fight with MMAWeekly.com, stating that he has agreed to the fight and contracts should be signed shortly.
“He’s a phenomenal fighter,” Gamburyan told the website. “I’m really happy I’m fighting him. With a good victory, that’s going to put me on top for sure.”
Gamburyan is looking to bounce back from his devastating knockout loss to Rob Emerson at UFC 87 in August. Although he is one of the UFC’s more outspoken personalities, he has only posted a 2-1 record in UFC since he injured himself against Nate Diaz in the “TUF 5″ Finale.
Tavares holds a 13-3 professional record, however is only 3-3 in the UFC, including two consecutive losses. His most recent Octagon appearance was a unanimous decision loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 88 just last month.
