Anderson Silva (pictured) has never taken any performance-enhancing drugs, despite the fact the former UFC middleweight champion got popped for multiple PEDs on multiple occasions. That’s Silva’s story and he’s sticking to it.
Silva did, however, take a mysterious blue vial from Thailand that was supposed to help his sexual performance but instead caused him to fail said drug multiple tests. That’s Part II of Silva’s story and he’s also sticking to that.
For the first time since tarnishing his legacy 13 months ago, Silva finally faced the firing squad and spoke to multiple media outlets about his flunked exams. “The Spider” never admitted fault and was quick keep sweep the PED past under the rug.
“The past is the past, I don’t want to get too much into that but at the end of the day I wanted everybody to know that I’m not a liar,” Silva stated during last week’s UFC Fight Night 84 media scrum. “Unfortunately, it didn’t come off that way but I always told the truth, I’ve never used any sort of PED of any sort and I’m excited to get back in there and fight and, who knows, even fight for a title.”
Silva’s truth has always been the mysterious blue vial from Thailand. The facts, however, state Silva failed his pre-fight, out-of-competition drug exam on January 9 for Drostanolone metabolites and Androsterone, a form of endogenous testosterone.
Silva was somehow clean on his January 19 drug screening.
Silva then tested positive in his UFC 183 post-fight drug test, which was administered by the NAC the night of his January 31 unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz, for Oxazepam and Temazepam – two prohibited Benzodiazepines, as well as Drostanalone, an anabolic steroid.
Silva returns from his one year suspension in 12 days to fight Michael Bisping, who isn’t buying what Silva is selling. Bisping believes Silva has been cheating his entire illustrious career and was just now finally busted.
“You need to prove that you can do it not on steroids,” Bisping said to Silva’s face during the same media session. “All your life [you’ve been] on steroids. All your life.”
There’s great incentive for Silva to claim innocence because he was considered by most pundits as MMA’s GOAT prior to the whole mysterious blue vial thing. Back-to-back losses to Chris Weidman at the tail end of his career didn’t change that. The whole mysterious blue vial thing did, however.
As Silva’s return to the cage draws near, there are still far more questions than answers. The truth of the matter is, Silva did take PEDs whether he knew it (most probably) or not (highly unlikely). Sometimes the truth hurts, especially when it’s injected from a syringe containing a substance in a mysterious blue vial from Thailand.
