A lightweight shootout between Anthony Pettis (pictured) and Edson Barboza has beeen added to the UFC 197 lineup.
The announcement was made on this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight.”
Pettis is in desperate need of a win having dropped two straight scraps. The UFC didn’t do the former champion any favors by handing him Barboza, but at least the Brazilian is a standup specialist like Pettis so he won’t have to worry about getting planted on his back like in his previous two outings.
Barboza, meanwhile, has alternated between wins and losses over his past four fights. He was most recently submitted by white-hot Tony Ferguson in December.
UFC 197 goes down April 23 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. A light heavyweight rematch between champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlines the pay-per-view broadcast.
Here is the show’s current lineup:
James Vick vs. Glaico Franca
Anthony Pettis vs. Edson Barboza
Henry Cejudo vs. Demetrious Johnson (UFC flyweight champion)
Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier (UFC light heavyweight champion)
