On Thursday, Bellator MMA president Scott Coker announced they are branching out into the kickboxing business with Bellator Kickboxing.
kickboxers Joe Schilling, Raymond Daniels, Kevin Ross, Keri Melendez and Anastasia Yankova joined Coker at the podium during today’s press conference.
“Kickboxing is a thrilling, non-stop action-packed sport that I believe will resonate with MMA fans,” said Coker. “Our first goal is to develop stars and showcase these incredible athletes on the #1 home for combat sports, Spike TV.
This isn’t the first time Bellator has dabbled in the kickboxing pond. They co-promoted “Bellator MMA & Glory: Dynamite 1” last September. Glory has now partnered with the UFC to have their events streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
Bellator Kickboxing will make its debut as a co-promoted show with “Bellator 152” and Oktagon Kickboxing on April 16 at the Pala Alpitour in Torino, Italy.
The Bellator Kickboxing event will be headlined by a scrap between Melvin Manhoef and Alexandru Negrea, as well as a five round title tilt between when Mustapha Haida challenges Karim Ghajii for his ISKA 75 KG belt.
Other participants competing at the inaugural Bellator Kickboxing extravaganza include Ross, Daniels and Denise Kielholtz. Additional bouts will be added shortly.
On the MMA side, Alessio Sakara faces Brian Rogers. Patricky “Pitbull” Freire, Brent Primus, Anastasia Yankova and A.J. McKee will also be showcased.
Spike TV will broadcast the card at 9PM ET/PT.
