Spike TV released the television ratings for this past Saturday’s UFC 89 event in Birmingham, England. The free, tape delayed event drew an average of 2.3 million viewers, peeking at 3.4 million during the main event which featured popular British fighter Michael Bisping’s unanimous decision victory over Chris Leben.

The UFC event earned Spike TV a 2.3 rating, placing them second in the key demographics for men ages 18-49, men 18-34 and men 25-34. They went head-to-head with college football, but the lack of star power prevented the card from topping the collegiate athletes.

The UFC’s last free “major” Spike TV event was UFC 75 in September of 2007. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson successfully defended his title against PrideFC 205-pound champion Dan Henderson, unifying the 205-pound belt. That event drew 4.7 million viewers, an all-time high at that point in time.
