Former two-time UFC light heavyweight champion Matt Hughes stated on his blog that he has asked UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to pit him against his bitter rival Matt Serra in April. Hughes has been recovering from a left knee injury he suffered in his loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 85 back in June.
“This week, I talked to Joe Silva at the UFC and a possible date for (Matt) Serra and I is in April,” wrote Hughes. “I don’t know the exact date right now or venue. So, that is something that I can look forward to and I can set my training up for that schedule.”
It was initially thought that Hughes might need surgery on his knee, which would have sidelined him over six months. However after several X-Rays and MRIs, doctors discovered that surgery would not be needed.
