The UFC certainly pulls out all the stops when it comes to promoting their golden boy, don’t they? First they had Sinéad O’Connor sing live as Conor McGregor (pictured) made his way to the octagon at UFC 189, and now they hired legendary rapper DMX to narrate the intro for Saturday’s UFC 196 event.
There aren’t many voices more recognizable in the world than DMX’s. It’s deep, raspy, intense and intimidating – the perfect mix to promote a UFC fight featuring its biggest superstar.
DMX has been indirectly linked to the UFC for over a decade. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell’s entrance music during his Hall of Fame career was DMX’s “Intro” on his “It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot” album. Once fans heard that bass hit the speakers, they knew it was time for “The Iceman” to do his thing.
McGregor makes his UFC welterweight debut against Nate Diaz Saturday at UFC 196. Women’s bantamweight champ Holly Holm and Miesha Tate, who serve as the show’s co-main event, also receive the DMX treatment.
