It looks like Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is firing blanks again. On Wednesday, it was reported an undisclosed injury has forced Rua out of his April 16 fight against fellow former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans.
Have no fear, Glover Teixeira (pictured) is here.
FoxSports.com first reported the swap. UFC officials have yet to confirm the new tango.
Evans will be looking to bounce back from October’s unanimous decision defeat to Ryan Bader. Due to complications with knee surgery, that bout marked Evans’ first outing since beating Chael Sonnen in October 2013.
Teixeira has righted the ship by rattling off a pair of impressive victories after dropping two straight scraps. The former light heavyweight top contender choked Ovince St. Preux out cold prior to TKO’ing Patrick Cummins in November.
No word on how long Rua will be sitting the sidelines.
Evans and Rua were originally slated to co-headline the event. It is believed the new matchup will maintain that slot in the lineup.
