Let’s file this under the “Huh” category. One week after it was reported former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (pictured) would be forced out of his April 16 scrap against Rashad Evans due to an undisclosed injury, Rua has been reassigned to fight Corey Anderson one month later at UFC 198.
The UFC announced the new matchup Tuesday via Twitter.
Rua collected a much needed win by besting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in April. The Brazilian had dropped seven of his last 11 prior to outpointing Little Nog.
Anderson makes a quick turnaround after beating Tom Lawlor earlier this month at UFC 196. The win marked “Beastin 25/8’s” third straight.
The May 14 event takes place inside Arena Atletico Paranaense in Curitiba, Brasil.
