UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn has just confirmed on his official website that he will be defending his title for a fourth time against #1 contender Frank Edgar at UFC 112 on April 10th in Abu Dhabi.
Penn is currently in Las Vegas where he will be meeting with UFC president Dana White to most likely iron out all the details regarding his next foe.
“Me versus Frankie Edgar and I think that’s a great fight,” Penn said on his video blog.
The bout was all but confirmed following Gray Maynard’s lackluster victory over Nate Diaz at “UFC Fight Night 20” this past Monday night on Spike TV.
Regardless of Maynard’s performance, the prevailing thought was that Edgar had leapfrogged Maynard in line, even though Maynard owns the only loss on Edgar’s record.
The champ seemed excited at the fact that he would be facing a well-rounded fighter like Edgar.
“This is it, now I know who I’m fighting on April 10th,” Penn confirmed. “Edgar’s a very good opponent, he’s got a lot of big wins and he gets after it.”
