Alistair Overeem (pictured) and Andrei Arlovski might be teammates, but there are far from friends. That was evident by the animosity between the heavyweights heading into Sunday’s showdown at UFC Fight Night 87.
Overeem finished things off in the second round with a jumping crane kick that would have made Mr. Miyagi proud. The kick landed right on Arlovski’s chin, and before the former champion could figure out what happened, “The Demolition Man” dropped him with a left hook. Several bombs on the ground and the mauling was brought to an end.
The official stoppage came at 1:12 in the second stanza.
Overeem has once again put himself back in position to score a title shot. The last time that happened was in 2012, but Overeem flunked his random pre-fight drug test to face then-chapm Junior dos Santos.
Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands hosted the festivities.
