Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum (pictured) enjoyed nearly a yearlong layoff after capturing the crown last year, but Werdum will get right back to work after losing his belt earlier this month to Stipe Miocic.
Werdum had won six straight bouts prior to getting knocked out cold by Miocic. Although “Vai Cavalo” was unable to make one successful title defense, he is considered in some circles as one of the best heavyweights in MMA history given the wins he’s posted throughout his 14-year career.
Rothwell was red hot entering April’s critical bout with former champion Junior dos Santos. However, Rothwell had his four-fight win streak snapped courtesy of an admitted poor strategy.
The September 10 card goes down inside Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Miocic defends his gold against Alistair Overeem in the pay-per-view’s featured attraction.
Here is the show’s current lineup:
Fabricio Werdum vs. Ben Rothwell
Alistair Overeem vs. Stipe Miocic (UFC heavyweight champion)
