Poor, Urijah Faber. Despite an illustrious MMA career, a UFC title simply isn’t in the cards for “The California Kid.” UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz dominated Faber on Saturday at UFC 199 to retain his title.
Faber is the only man to ever post a win over Cruz, but that was nine years ago.
Cruz was simply too fast for Faber in their rubber match. He constantly beat Faber to the punch, even dropping Faber in the second round.
Faber couldn’t muster up much offense because he couldn’t locate the elusive Cruz.
When the dust settled on their trilogy, Cruz cruised to a lopsided unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 49-46) victory to retain his strap. BTW, I’m not sure which round that judge though Faber won, but it’s a moot point.
Faber has now lost his last seven title fights (UFC and WEC).
After the loss, Faber hinted that after 13 years, tonight may have been his last MMA bout.
UFC 199 took place inside The Forum in Inglewood, California.
