It is being reported that the lightweight match featuring former UFC champion Sean Sherk and fan-favorite Clay Guida scheduled for “UFC Fight Night 21” has been canceled.
Sources close to the fight told FiveOuncesOfPain.com early Friday morning that the organization was “scrapping” the bout, however no specifics beyond that were revealed.
It doesn’t appear as though the dreaded Injury Bug hit either contestant, which would lead most to believe the UFC has decided to either cancel the fight or move it to another event.
The 155-pound battle was first reported by The Nothwest Indiana Times earlier this week.
(UPDATED 1/15/10 3:51PM PT)
Sherk’s manager, Monte Cox, told Sherdog.com Friday afternoon that his client aggravated a lingering injury and that’s the cause for Sherk’s exit. Cox wouldn’t specify what ails the former champ or when fans can expect his return.
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Shannon Gugerty will step in and meet Guida on the March 21st card.
