On his big night in the ATL, Tyron Woodley (pictured) came out firing. In just two minutes and 12 seconds, Woodley knocked out Robbie Lawler to capture the welterweight title.
It was the fastest finish in a 170-pound title tilt in UFC history.
Lawler didn’t come out with the same aggression fans are accustomed to seeing from the “Ruthless” one, perhaps he knew better than anyone the power and speed his American Top Team teammate possessed. Well, if he didn’t before, he does now.
Woodley feinted with some jabs before loading up an a wide right hand that cracked Lawler right on the chin. Lawler immediately collapsed to the canvas and Woodley went in for the kill. Several bombs to the face on the ground and the assault was brought to a halt.
Woodley, 34, has now seen his MMA career go from appearing in the Strikeforce preliminary card to UFC king.
Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia hosted the festivities.
