Remember on Wednesday when UFC president Dana White got fans all pumped after announcing former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (pictured) and Donald Cerrone had just put pen to paper to fight in New York at UFC 205? My, how things can change in a matter of just three days.
TMZ Sports is reporting that Lawler has pulled out of the November 12 shootout. Multiple MMA outlets have since confirmed the disappointing news.
According to MMAFighting.com, Lawler decided withdraw because he needed more time to recover from July 30th’s vicious knockout loss to Tyron Woodley which cost him his welterweight crown.
Cerrone is a perfect 3-0 since moving up to the welterweight division. “Cowboy” has finished off all of those victims before the final horn. After last month’s TKO over Rick Story, Cerrone said he’d be more than happy to jump right back into action for the UFC’s much anticipated return to New York.
It is believed the UFC will look to keep Cerrone in the lineup against a different opponent.
Madison Square Garden in New York hosts UFC 205.
Here is the card’s current rumored lineup:
Donald Cerrone vs. TBD
Al Iaquinta vs. Thiago Alves
Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy
