Just when you thought UFC 205 was already stacked to the MSG rafters, UFC president Dana White adds a blockbuster lightweight shootout between undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov and Michael Johnson to the November 12 lineup.
White announced the matchup during Tuesday’s UFC 205 pre-fight press conference.
Nurmagomedov was expecting to challenge for the lightweight title in his next outing, but champion Eddie Alvarez was assigned to Conor McGregor instead.
Nurmagomedov returned from a two-year layoff due to injuries in April to beat Darrell Horcher. “The Eagle” owns an unblemished 23-0 professional record, and many believe it’s only matter of time before he not only fights for the belt, but sit atop the throne.
Johnson is fresh off this month’s knockout victory over Dustin Poirier. It was a much needed win for “The Menace,” as he had dropped his previous two bouts.
Madison Square Garden in New York host the November 12 event.
