UFC ‘Reschedules’ Return To Philippines After BJ Penn Injury

This is what happens when you host too many meaningless events with a watered down lineup every weekend. On Thursday, the UFC announced they have decided to “reschedule” their October 15 return to the Philippines after former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn suffered a rib injury that forced him out of the show’s featured attraction against Ricardo Lamas.

“I suffered a rib injury in training and I apologize to the fans in Manila who were expecting to watch me compete,” Penn said in the UFC’s press release. “I hope to be back in the Octagon soon.”

All of the athletes who were slated to compete in the card will be rebooked for future events towards the end of the year. The good news is, the UFC will compensate the athletes for the inconvenience.

The UFC did not specify if Penn would also receive financial relief.

Fans who purchased tickets to UFC Fight Night 97 should go to the point of purchase in order to receive refunds.

UFC Fight Pass was scheduled to stream the entire event, so no big deal for the UFC to “reschedule” the card.
